Tertius Coetzee was a police officer during the Apartheid era, and was responsible for the torture and death of Daniel Grootboom, a young freedom fighter. After being granted amnesty by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he travels to the West Coast fishing village of Paternoster to visit Daniel's family and ask for their forgiveness.
Forgiveness has won awards at both the Locarno International Film Festival and the Cape Town International Film Festival.
